1000 wild horses are scheduled for capture from the Devil’s Garden Plateau Wild Horse Territory by

two CA Forest Service Ranger Districts. The removal is expected to begin on Oct. 10, 2018. The BLM is accepting both 'purchase requests' and 'adoption applications' for captured horses.

BLM 2018 PROPOSED BUDGET CALLS FOR PROVISIONS THAT WOULD ALLOW THE
BLM TO SHOOT & KILL WILD HORSES AND BURROS AND ALSO ALLOW THEM TO SELL WILD HORSES AND BURROS FOR SLAUGHTER

The Wild for Life Foundation (WFLF) and SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES strongly opposes any budget provision that would allow the killing of wild horses and burros, and opposes the removal of the protective language which currently restricts the sale of wild horses and burros by the BLM for slaughter.

BUDGET JUSTIFICATIONS by The United States, Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) call for approval of proposed provisions that if passed would allow the BLM to exterminate America's wild horses and burros and allow the BLM to sell wild horses and burros for slaughter.

BACKGROUND:
In September of 2016, when public outcry against the recommended killing of 45,000 wild American horses and burros reached mainstream level it caught the attention of some of the most powerful mainstream media outlets. The combination of these factors brought increased exposure to the systemic mistreatment and reckless mismanagement of the wild horses and our public lands. This in turn caused a detrimental backlash of criticism against the government and the BLM.

A flurry of subsequent news reports based on statements by BLM spokespersons then headlined a false positive result for America’s horses which effectively left the public in the dark. For example, reportedly,  “BLM spokesperson, Tom Gorey, said that the agency will continue its current policy of caring for unadopted or unsold wild horses and burros and will not sell or send any animals to slaughter."

WFLF Saving America's Horses' educational alerts inform the public about the facts. As revealed in the SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES documentary film, the BLM has been and continues to be a very powerful proponent of slaughter.

We applaud the many U.S. Representatives in the Senate and the House who continue to support the needed protections for America’s wild horse and burro population. We especially give thanks to Lisa Murkowski, Tom Udall and Dianne Feinstein for their hard work and support in protecting America’s horses from slaughter.

WFLF has produced a series of EDUCATIONAL ALERTS with FACTS THAT REFUTE BLM's MYTHS.  We urge the public not to be duped by the clever and misleading BLM propaganda. Selling the animals ‘without limitation’ or under sale authority effectively strips their protection from abuse and slaughter.

Horses and burros are living symbols of the historic spirit of the West. They contribute to the diversity of life forms within the Nation and enrich the lives of the American people. However they are sadly disappearing from the American scene and must be protected.

In May of 2017 the BLM released their 2018 Budget proposing provisions that would strip protections and effectively allow the BLM to shoot & kill wild horses and burros and sell wild horses and burros for slaughter. But by raising awareness and educating the public about the importance of keeping these protections in place, we can win for the horses.  America's wild horses and burros need support now more than ever.  Together, we are their voice and they need to be heard.

Saving America’s Horses Warns the Public Not to Let Down Guard for America’s Horses

America’s Wild Horses and Burros are NOT Out of Danger

Sept. 16, 2016, Los Angeles, CA - Fate of 44,000 Wild Horses remains under Threat of EXTERMINATION pending BLM decision TBA spring 2017. Meanwhile status quo BLM practices leave horses with no real protection from killing or slaughter.

The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) neither approves nor rejects recommendation by its Board to exterminate 44,000 wild American horses.  A number of recent media reports have essentially renounced valid concerns which threaten the lives of over 45,000 wild horses and burros in America.  In truth, the BLM has yet to decide the fate these innocent animals.  Reportedly the BLM has no intention of issuing a formal response on the issue until sometime in 2017.

Saving America’s Horses, an international initiative under the Wild For Life Foundation points to the BLM’s long history of creative damage control and propaganda campaigns when confronted with public exposure and uproar over its highly camouflaged wild horse and burro program.   “The BLM claims to protect the wild horses and burros under a so-called “without limitation” policy which they fail to enforce,” said Katia Louise, president of the Wild For Life Foundation.  Amidst the media flurry, it’s been reported that Tom Gorey, a spokesman for the bureau said that the agency will “continue its current policy of caring for unadopted or unsold wild horses and burros” and will “not sell or send any animals to slaughter.”

“To sell the animals ‘without limitation’ effectively strips their protection from abuse and slaughter,” adds Katia Louise.  “In other words, countless wild horses and burros will continue to die under BLM status quo practices.”

Despite mainstream news reports, America’s horses are not out of danger, said Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) representatives.   Saving America’s Horses is therefore stepping up its educational campaign in effort to increase exposure of the truth to the public. In a statement from WFLF’s Saving America’s Horses Initiative, “We will be strengthening our fight to stop the killing, end the cruelty and save America’s horse and burro population from suffering gruesome death from roundups and slaughter.”  On Sept. 14, 2016, The Wild For Life Foundation, announced its release of a new series of PSA's based on evidence presented in the powerful documentary film, Saving America's Horses: A Nation Betrayed (2012)

Saving America’s Horses: A Nation Betrayed is a “searing indictment of governmental agencies involved in the slaughter of horses. The impassioned pic amasses impressive documentation, visual and testimonial, of systemic mistreatment of the animals, illegal and fraudulent practices regulating their sale, and the very real possibility of their extinction in the wild.” - Variety

With over 44,000 innocent wild American Mustangs lives at stake, and under what is now recognized as a valid veiled threat of EXTERMINATION by the BLM, it's critical for these innocent beings that the true facts get out to the masses. WFLF is asking horse and animal enthusiasts to help stop the dangerous and violent expulsion of America’s Mustangs from our lands by taking action. Supporters are encouraged to sign the Saving America’s Horses’ petition and join the Saving America’s Horses Initiative.  Through these efforts we will expose the systemic corruption that has left virtually worthless the Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act, which is supposed to protect horses and burros. We can stop the killing and reverse the degradation to open rangelands caused by BLM mismanagement, but we must remain vigilant.  Horse and burro supporters can stay informed and get the facts they need through the WFLF Saving America’s Horses educational PSA series recently launched through the Saving America’s Horses Facebook page.

Orphaned Navajo Foals Saved From the Brink of Death

Navajo Nation, NM - Sept. 12, 2013 -  Mares and foals are being swept up 
along with other wild horses and burros during the US government funded Navajo roundups which the majority of Navajo people oppose.

Local tribal members have reported Navajo government rangers coming onto their property and confiscating virtually every horse, even from within their stalls and pens.  Horse owners are said to have two days to claim or save their horses, but in many cases owners didn’t learn about the roundup until the very moment when rangers were storming their property.   Both branded and unbranded horses captured in the Navajo roundup have reportedly been sold and shipped to slaughter without providing their owners a means to get them back.

According to an order by the NN government, livestock officials are to be responsible for maintaining accurate records of each equine including the description and identification, plus the purchase price, date, and location of the sale at the auction.  

A group of Navajo foals were recently discovered at a local livestock yard, who had been captured this past week, range in ages from 2-5 months. They were taken away from their mothers who have reportedly been shipped to slaughter.  These foals were rescued from the brink of death by rescue workers. There were originally 30 foals in this group, however 3 have since died. Several of the remaining 27 are now receiving continued veterinary medical care through a local animal clinic.

Wild for Life Foundation is partnering with a local shelter who will temporarily house the foals while we work on arrangements for their rescue, recovery and placement. Donations for feed and vet care during their stay at the shelter can be made to the shelter on line at
