FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 17, 2015, Los Angeles, California - The Wild For Life Foundation’s (WFLF) hay donation drive raises awareness, hay and funds to aid starved and homeless horses coast to coast.
WFLF recently issued a stark warning that many equines will suffer starvation through into the coming year. WFLF points to skyrocketing hay prices compounded by drought conditions and neglectful owners who have not provided adequate feed during tough economic times as the main causes.
The ongoing effort has caught the attention of caring community members from coast to coast who have chipped in their support for this important cause. Alejandra Kiernan of Sherman Oaks, California, when planning her son’s first birthday, was looking for a creative way to decorate. She chose to use alfalfa instead of straw for the event and by doing so she was able to re-purpose the hay she bought by donating it to charity. WFLF volunteers came to pick up the eighteen bales of alfalfa after the party was over, and the hay has already begun feeding rescue horses in need.
An anonymous hay producer on the East coast has just recently donated eighty round bales of Timothy hay in support of WFLF’s Hay Drive. And, WFLF has already begun disbursing the donated hay to East coast area equine rescue charities under WFLF’s Saving America’s Horses Coalition. Rescue horses in and around the Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia area are beginning to reap the benefits of the donated hay through hay award coalition members including the Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue of West Virginia.
“Each and every donation no matter the size, makes a huge difference for these desperate horses in crucial need,” says Katia Louise, WFLF President and Founder. “Plus there are tax advantages that can be had by those who donate money, hay, goods and services to charities like the Wild For Life Foundation.”
Charity missions like the ‘WFLF Hay Drive’ help raise awareness, hay and essential funds, to aid horses, ponies, donkeys and foals that need urgent care after being starved, neglected, rounded up or discarded and left to die. A bale of hay can make all the difference!
Ms. Louise said, “WFLF saw a dramatic increase in the number of starving animals requiring the assistance of our rescue program over the last couple years.” In 2013, the WFLF met the needs of a 244% increase in victimized equines over the previous year. And in 2014, WFLF responded and provided for aproximately 200 neglected, abused and homeless horses who have come through its doors, including 17 pregnant mares. WFLF works around the clock helping horses across the country and is regularly stretched beyond capacity in meeting the needs of the equines it serves. The Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) is an all volunteer nonprofit 501(C)3 charity and we depend 100% upon the generosity of others to accomplish our mission. Without your continued support we would be unable to save, protect provide for horses in need.
“It takes a great deal of hay to bring just one starved horse back to health and even more to feed a large number of homeless rescue horses through the year,” added Ms. Louise. “Hay is the single highest ongoing expense and most crucial lifesaving resource in operating a horse charity.” Indeed the cost of hay has more than doubled over the past few years and prices are expected to continue to rise.
WFLF has stepped up during very troubling times and taken numerous wild and domestic horses into its rescue from across the country. “The immediate and ongoing need for funding to replenish hay supplies is crucial to the future welfare of America’s horses,” Katia said. .
“Having crucial hay funds is what makes it possible for WFLF and other charities like them to continue their lifesaving work,” said Katia. “Without adequate hay supplies, we would be forced to turn away needy starving horses; horses that would have nowhere else to go.”
