Two CA Companion Horses rescued, but still need help

For Immediate Release

Wild for Life Foundation Press Release, April 1, 2013

Wild for Life Foundation, Lifetime Equine Refuge (WFLF-LER) just rescued two companion horses from a property in the Riverside County. The horses were extremely emaciated and for the next 60 to 90 days, they will receive special care in a safe and loving environment.  Although the horses have technically been rescued, they still need a home for their extended recovery and that could take months, if not a year or more. WFLF-LER is working with individual members of the equestrian community to find a solution that will restore them to health and provide them with lifelong care.

Three horses were recently discovered by WFLF after the owner's mother called for help. Her son had not been able to provide for them after being in an accident. The Chestnut Arabian mare, named Coco and QH paint stallion called Rocky are now safe, but Sky, the third horse belonged to the owner's sister, who recently passed away. The distraught children and family members are thankful that Coco and Rocky are getting the care they need, but they just couldn't part with Sky just yet. WFLF will continue to provide feed and hay to the property where Sky remains and will be checking in on her regularly.

“We are grateful to the kind hearted people who are helping to make this rescue mission possible,” said Katia Louise, president, WFLF-LER.  “This is just the beginning for these horses and WFLF-LER is fortunate that caring individuals are willing to partner with our nonprofit rescue organization to help find creative solutions for horses with such dire need.”

Those interested in helping these horses recover are invited to support this rescue mission with a tax deductible donation to Wild for Life Foundation. Experienced equine care providers interested in helping to foster or adopt a horse in need are invited to join WFLF's Safe Haven Network. With your help, these horses and others like them can be placed in safe and loving homes with a second chance at life.

Rescue in Progress - Please Help

WFLF's Lifetime Equine Refuge is rescuing three companion horses who were on the verge of going to slaughter, and we are working to bring them immediately into our Safe Haven Network.

We got the emergency call requesting urgent aid for these three young horses just the other day. Our emergency rescue team immediately delivered temporary hay and feed provisions for the horses and upon assessment found they range from approx 5 - 12 years old, are all without shelter and severely emaciated.

The mother of the owner reports that her son was in an accident and has since been unable to provide them the care they need. The owner has since agreed to surrender them, but time is of the essence.

Together we can make this story of broken bodies and shattered lives whole again.

Sky is a mild Arabian/mix mare.. and Rocky is a gentle and kind QH stud..  both with strong trail riding backgrounds. Michelle is a darling chestnut mare, halter broke with training in ground work and just as sweet as can be.

Experienced equine care providers interested in helping to foster or adopt a horse in need are also invited to join WFLF's Safe Haven Network. With your help, horses like Sky, Rocky and Michelle can receive that second chance at life.

If you have room for a horse in need, or know someone else that does, please contact WFLF's Lifetime Equine Refuge directly. info@lifetimeequinerefuge.org

Meet Arrow and Partner with Us

March 17, 2013, Los Angeles, CA
Meet Arrow. She is a beautiful Appy mare about to lose everything. She's 16 years old and healthy, but she was over worked while used for barrel racing and didn't receive proper care..  when she could no longer perform she was abandoned.  She was taken in by a good Samaritan  that has since fallen on hard times.
Arrow has arthritis in her rear legs and she just needs a safe and loving place with a small pasture or turn out. She is an excellent candidate for ground work/ equine assisted learning- therapy programs. She halters, picks, loads and is good with other horses.

We are currently looking for a foster care provider for Arrow to buy time for her transition into permanent placement down the line.  If you have room for her as a foster, or know someone else that does, please get back to me directly.  Time is of the essence.  We must work quickly to keep Arrow out of the slaughter pipeline.

Please share to help.
Thank you for caring,
Sincerely,

Katia Louise

WFLF-SAH Call to Action - Mar 6, 2013

The USDA is taking steps forward to conduct horse slaughter inspectionsThe startling news is linked to the law suit that Valley Meats of NM, filed against the USDA.  If they are successful the first inspection could take place in a couple months time.

Help us stop the inhumane killing and obtain justice for America's horses by supporting our work.

We work around the clock researching, documenting and exposing the true facts about the capture, removal, transport and stockpiling of both wild and domestic horses to be slaughtered for their meat. In order to effect change, we have combined the evidence we collect into multiple media educational materials, including the world's most powerful visual resource; cinema. "Saving America's Horses - A Nation Betrayed", the acclaimed feature documentary film is a game changer for our horses.
