LOS ANGELES, CA– March12, 2013, Saving America’s Horses’ Dr. Nicholas Dodman and Senator
Landrieu, D-La. will join together
with Rep. Patrick Meehan, R-Pa., Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., the ASPCA, HSUS and
AWI to introduce federal legislation to stop the inhumane killing of American
horses for human consumption and prohibit the transport of horses across the U.
S. border for slaughter. The new bills will be called the Safeguard American
Food Exports (SAFE) Act; the passage of which would prohibit horse slaughter
operations in the U.S., end the current export and slaughter of more America’s
wild and domestic equines, and protect the public from consuming toxic
horsemeat.
A press conference will be held on Capitol Hill on Wednesday,
March 13 at 10 a.m. for the introduction of the bills.
